SCIENTIFIC AND OTHER EXPERT THEORIES ABOUT HOW RAMSES II DIED
Medical treatments, such as pathology testings and x-ray imagery, had diagnosed that Ramses II suffered from old age. Based on this evidence, scientific and medical examiners have stated that he suffered from osteoporosis, the deterioration of the bones, toughening of arteries, causing tightness and difficulties in breathing. Other theories have emerged that Ramses II was the Pharaoh in Exodus, who held the Israelites in slavery. Evidence that supports this theory is depicted in the Book of Exodus, “The Israelites, as slaves, worked under tight taskmasters’ commands to build the treasure cities of Pharaoh, the Pithom and the Rameses” (Exodus 1:11) and “The people of Israel, 600,000 thousand men on foot and unknown number of children, journeyed from the place called Rameses to another place called Succoth” (Exodus 12:37). It is written that the Pharaoh drowned crossing the Red Sea, whilst trying to recapture Moses and the Israelites. Thus, it is evident hat Ramses II could have died from health-related problems, as a result of old age, and/or by drowning, as stated in the Book of Exodus. |
