FORENSIC ANALYSIS ON RAMSES II TO HELP DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND CONTEXT OF DEATH
Due to the mummification of Ramses II body and the relocation of his body several times, there is little evidence that states his cause of death. Relative dating and scientific inquiry has estimated his life span to be 90 years of age. It was around this time that Ramses II began to suffer severe health problems. Poor hygiene and serious dental problems, including an abscessed tooth, resulted in major bacterial infections. Additionally, the Pharaoh was riddled with arthritis, inflammation in his spine, and arteriosclerosis (the hardening of the arteries’ walls), which led to him having a hunched back. X-ray imagery has also revealed old fractures and a hole in his mandible. Although there is insufficient evidence regarding the context of his death, it is clear that such health problems along with old age played a significant factor in the Pharaohs demise. |
